Agree. Rankilor was hardly a leading 'climate change scientist' nor a MULTI millionaire.
He was however a very astute civil engineer who worked with geo synthetics and had a good life-style ... more in the order of a millionaire rather than MULTI!
But above all that he was/is an EVIL child abuser who ruined the lives of a number of young girls completely.
I am friends with one of his victims and even though she is now in her mid 40s she is still tortured by what he did to her for almost 20 years, she is a fragile shadow of the person she could have become.
If there was capital punishment, he should have been hanged.
But am sure he is having a fun time with ordinary villians in Strangeways!
So, all in all, the Torygraph's story was a few shillings short of the facts but at least the paper reported on his deeds.

If you're not confused, you don't know what's going on. So I'm confused. Ergo, I konw what's going on. Sort of.

I understand what Mick's saying about shift but let me take a different tack and say that mitigation and amelioration (I like long words) are as much of the solution as new ways of thinking. Let's do differently and do better today while anguishing about the future.

I've got an agricultural take on all this climate change stuff. New patterns of crop growing, new problems as well as new opportunities. I suspect we don't really need grapes in Yorkshire, but if you can, then why not? More importantly, climate change is having an insidious and poorly documented effect on crop production.

We had our little panic over food prices last year. Gone away? No way. Come again? You bet. Who's offering mitigation? Very few, because it requires practical responses that are much more difficult to proscribe and ultimately prescribe. So while you ponder the theories and shift a paradigm or two, ponder over how we'll help the cotton and wheat farmer in Pakistan's Punjab or assist the papain producer in North Kivu, DRC or consider what can be done about water rights in the Murray-Darling basin, from whence a third of Australia's food production comes.

Can Messrs Stern, Lawson, Tickell or even Stanley Matthews help? Thinking caps on, please. Enough intellectual onanism and more practical solutions to the climate change challenges which face us today. Please.
